Hey 007 nerds! You should know this drink, because it was made famous in Ian Fleming's book 'Casino Royale'. James Bond orders his custom gin martini, made with a sweet vermouth and shaken, not stirred.
Many bartenders will debate with you that shaking any martini is cocktail blasphemy, but us here at Confluence say, "do whatever makes you happy."
Shaking a martini will potentially "over-dilute" the cocktail, and leave shards of ice floating in your drink. But, arguably, a diluted spirit is easier to taste, and you won't potentially 'burn' your taste buds if you're drinking martinis all night. So, c'est la vie and carpe diem.
Either way, the Vesper is our favourite ways to drink a good gin without masking the flavour with juices or syrups.
3 oz Detour Dry Gin
1 oz Detour Vodka
1/2 oz Lillet
Add all ingredients into a shaker Tin with ice, or a mixing glass, with ice. Shake vigorously for 20 seconds or stir for 30 seconds. Strain liquid into a stemmed cocktail glass.
Garnish with a big lemon twist.
As with any Martini, The Vesper martini can be played around with until you find that sweet spot for your palate. If you like your drink a little sweeter, We recommend completely removing the vodka, and making it just the gin with lillet. Don't add an extra ounce to compensate for the vodka removal.
